Multi-Modal Haptic Rendering Based on Genetic Algorithm

Multi-modal haptic rendering is an important research direction to improve realism in rendering. It can produce various mechanical stimuli that render multiple perceptions, such as hardness and roughness. This paper proposes a multi-modal method based on genetic algorithm (GA), which generates force vibration of actuators according the user’s target The work utilizes back propagation (BP) neural network implement perception model f establishes mapping (I=f(G)) from objective features G intensities I. We use design fitness function GA set physically achievable constraints calculation. transformed into force/vibration control by GA. Finally, we conducted evaluation experiments between real virtual samples under single or multi-mode rendering, where subjects scored 0-100. average score was 70.86 for compared with 57.81 50.23 roughness proved more realistic than mode.
